Get your Credit Report 1654 Reads
.
.
Internet It’s that time of year again, if you haven’t done so already make sure to take advantage of your right to a free credit report from the three credit bureaus.

In the past we have posted the phone numbers for each agency and you have to would call each one to get your free report if you lived in certain states. It is now free in all states once per calendar year.

Credit Report:

They have finally made a standardized website that allows you to get all three reports online. It asks for your basic info once and then takes you to each of the three sites one by one.

Wireless Bridging.. Remove that cable running through the house 1856 Reads
.
.
Internet I had this long 30' ethernet cable connecting my remote hub in the home office with my Cable Modem and Wireless Router downstairs. For years I considered drilling holes through walls and ceilings but never got around to it. Recently someone told me about a Wireless Bridge.

The only reason I am posting this is because I found a really great deal for a wireless-G Bridge for only $20 at compusa. Its a Viewsonic WAPBR-100 which lists for $60-$80. The sale ends June 30, 2005, after which the price probably goes back to $60..

Trillian 3.1 Crashing on launch 2075 Reads
.
.
Internet So Trillian has not worked for me on windows for the past month or so since I installed that 3.1 update. It basically crashed on launch and full reinstalls had no effect. I think I chose not to install the MSN client update and thats what broke it. After much searching I found that all that needs to be done is a manual plugin update.. Notes below from a thread on Cerulean's forums:

-------
Replace the same named file(s) in C:/ProgramFiles/Trillian/plugins while Trillian is NOT running:

AIM patch (for 3.1 only): http://obscurity.ceruleanstudios.com/~gts/aim.dll
MSN patch (for 3.1 only): http://obscurity.ceruleanstudios.com/~gts/msn.dll

New mySQL Worm 1813 Reads
.

Internet Not a problem if you're firewalled, but in case your server is not..

"Thousands of MySQL servers around the world are being infected with a worm which could facilitate a massive denial-of-service attack. Security experts have warned that thousands of MySQL servers around the world could be press-ganged into launching a denial-of-service attack that could bring down the Web site of a company the size of Microsoft.

Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta 2962 Reads
.
.
Internet My buddy Wally (ironically, a mac os user) recommended Microsoft's new anti-spyware application as a way to get rid of the HomeSearchAssistant browser hijack. It's in beta but runs just fine. The scan was much faster than Ad-Aware or SBS&D. If anyone could get rid of a hijack in IE, it would have to be microsoft as they are the only ones with the source, so I gave it a try...

IE Browser hijacks causing exodus to Firefox? 2274 Reads
.
.
Internet I was a die-hard microsoft IE user for a very long time, but over the holidays my laptop became victim to adware, spyware and a browser hijacks. Once you get one it will multiply if you dont take care of it immediately. Malware these days is a lot more "effective" than it was just 6 months ago.. In the past, if you caught any non-virus bug, you'd run Ad-Aware or Spybot S&D and you'd be clean in a jiffy. No such luck these days.. in fact, an entire industry has spawned to deal with the epidemic.

Technology: Firefox 1.0 Released 1361 Reads
.
.
Internet The wait is finally over, the Mozilla Group just released FireFox 1.0, the first major new product release since the Mozilla Suite's 1.0 in June of 2002. Firefox 1.0 is the completion of roughly 2 years of work on the revolutionary new browser, which has raised the Mozilla Foundation's profile greatly in its year of existance. The release follows up the hugely successful Preview Release which had over eight million downloads. Get it while it's hot!

Technology: Domain Transfers (and Hijackings) to Become Easier 1096 Reads
.
.
Internet  Netcraft has a statement posted on their site stateing that "Domain names could become easier to hijack as a change in domain transfer rules takes effect Friday. Under new rules set by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), domain transfer requests will be automatically approved in five days unless they are explicitly denied by the account owner. This is a change from current procedure, in which a domain's ownership and nameservers remain unchanged if there is no response to a transfer request." Read the whole thing here.
So what the _heck_ is going on with this?? Is it just me or is this just plain STUPID?? Any ideas or thoughts about this?? Maybe our resident domain guru Chris will shed some lite on what we can do here. My first thought is a mail filter with a "No F***ing Way" auto-responder attached to it.. should probably log all the activite too so a heavier complaint can be filed..
